Recording with friends and interesting people you meet on is an amazing and deeply fulfilling social experience. In a digital World with endless news-feeds, constant noise, and instant-everything, there's something to be said about pausing, slowing down, and being more conscious about the way we connect.

Recording audio or video tapes on is a fun, spontaneous, authentic, and innately rewarding experience. It's also super easy!

Understandably, it's also a NEW experience for many folks, especially because it doesn't fit the mold of traditional social media status updates.

So if you're curious to know how easy it is to record on, this is your ultimate guide. Within a few taps, you'll be recording and publishing tapes instantly. Pretty cool, right?

Let's begin!

Step 1: Go to the Tapers screen

Tap the middle icon on the bottom navigation menu and you'll arrive on the Tapers screen... this is where all the social magic happens!

The Tapers screen is where you go to record together with your connections on

If you don't see any people to start taping with, don't worry! You're just new to the community and have zero connections.

What is a "connection" on TapeReal?

A "connection" is someone you follow AND who follows you back. When two people follow each other, they become connections and can then record tapes together.

Step 2: Call your Connection on TapeReal

Once you have a connection you want to tape with, simply tap the video or audio icons next to their name to initiate the call. If this is your first time, you will also need to provide camera and microphone access in order to continue.

Calling connections on Tapebook: remember to allow camera and microphone access.

Once the call has initiated, your connection will receive an incoming audio or video call "push notification" with TapeReal's unique ringtone.

Make sure your connection has also allowed "push notifications" on their device as well or else they won't be able to receive your call!

Your connection will receive an incoming call push notification from TapeReal.

When your connection taps the incoming call push notification, TapeReal's app launches and your connection can then choose to accept the call. They will also need to grant their own camera and microphone access (if they haven't already done so).

Step 3: Record your tape and Publish

Once your call connects, you will see a 7 second countdown timer. This gives you and your connection a few seconds to get ready before recording begins on

Once your recording time has ended, the person who initiated the tape call will see the Tape Details screen, where they can enter the title of the tape and up to 5 relevant hashtags that describe the topic of your tape.

#hashtags help people find your tape by topic category under Discover.
Tape Titles are useful for people who search for tapes by keyword.

After publishing, your taped conversation will be published to the Public TapeFeed for the community to engage, comment, and share.

It will also appear on the front page of where you can get a shareable link for sharing on social media OR get the embed code to embed the tape on your website or blog for SEO.

Your followers will also be notified that you just published a tape.

  1. On the top left corner of the Tapers screen, check out the "Tips" screen for additional best practices on recording with TapeReal. The most important element is to make sure you're connected to a strong WiFi or cellular signal, especially when recording video.
  2. If you talked about an article or want to share a link that's relevant to your tape, you can easily add hyperlinks under the comments section of your tape.
  3. Remember: engage with your audience when they recommend or comment on your tape. Tapers love engaging and leaving audio comments too!
  4. You can also tag other users in comments with the '@' symbol. We will cover engagement and the comments section in another post – stay tuned! :)
